Journey

Hey,

So today it was back to my old church as I had a back from University for the summer. Today's service was different than unusual and therefore was shorter as it was an all age service so there is less to write about as well as there not being any new songs as this is my old church that I have been to for years.

Throughout this service you were asked to think about your Journey including the one with Jesus as well as being asked questions to help think about that journey.

When did your journey with Jesus begin?

Luke Gospel

This gospel is told as a journey and like a narrative. These stories include traveling and makes you feel like you are walking with Jesus which you are as he is with you every step of the way in your journey.

Where is your journey going? Where is it taking you?

Matthew 17:1-8

"Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. As they looked on, a change came over Jesus:his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white. Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.  So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus 'Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses , and one for Elijah.' While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my own dear son, with whom I am pleased - listen to him!' When the disciples heard the voice they were so terrified that they threw themselves face downwards on the ground. Jesus came to them and touched them. 'Get up,' he said . 'Don't be afraid!' So they looked up and saw no one there bu Jesus."

Revelation 21:1-4

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth disappeared, and the sea vanished. And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared and ready, like a bride dressed to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice speaking from the throne: 'Now God's home is with human beings! He will live with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God. He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or drying or pain. The old things have disappeared."

So that's it for this time, see you all again soon.

Standing firm, Standing tall - Part 3

Hey, so it really hasn't been long since my last blog but this is the last blog form Plymouth Christian Centre until September as am off back this week.

At the service today we blessed a family and dedicated there child to the Lord. This was not a christening but prayer for them.

As usual I came across new songs that I felt I would share with you all

I stand before you

and here is another song that I wasn't sure if I had heard before, so felt like I should share it with you anyway

You are here

Also sang some of my favorite songs which are 'This is Amazing Grace' and 'The moon and stars'.

1 Peter 1:13-21 - A call to Holy Living

Peter always comes back to hope and therefore putting your hope fully in God and his hands, which is evidenced in verses 3, 13 and 21 of 1 Peter.

Today we are going to look at How and Why we put our hope fully in God and his grace.

The words of this song 'My Hope is built on nothing less' were inspiring for the topic of the talk which was mainly about trusting in God's grace, but also about hope.

Without hope there is no life and therefore no future so put your faith and hope in the grace of God.

There are two thing to think about when you talk about how to put your faith and hope in the grace of God and there are Healthy thinking and Holy living.

Healthy Thinking

1 Peter 1:13

"So then, have your minds ready for action. Keep alert and set your hope completely on the blessing which will be given when Jesus Christ is revealed."

You should think about what you think about and then think differently. You need to stop thinking about problems and stop being negative towards yourself and therefore stop focusing on your worries.

1 Peter 1:14

"Be obedient to God, and do not allow your lives to be shaped by those desires you had when you were still ignorant."

Don't go back to when you were ignorant because you know the truth and the truth will set you free and it has changed your life and therefore your way of thinking.

You must be sober minded meaning that your mind is clear to the grace of God. What is intoxicating in your life and stopping you from fully giving yourself to the grace of God, such as social media, TV or just being lazy.

Philippians 4

"So then, my brothers and sisters, how dear you are to me and how I miss you! How happy you make me, and how proud I am of you! This then, dear brothers and sisters, is how you should stand firm in your life in the Lord."

Trust is God's grace

Colossians 3;1-5

"You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right-hand side of God. Keep yours minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Your real life is Christ and when he appears, then you too will appear with him and share his glory!"

Holy Living

1 Peter 1:15-16

"Instead, be holy in all that you do, just as God who called you is holy. The scripture says 'Be holy because I am holy.'"

You need to be seen as people of God and therefore do stuff in your life the make you stand out as a person of God so you must live differently.

1 Peter 1:15-16

"Instead, be holy in all that you do, just as God who called you is holy. The scripture says 'Be holy because I am holy.'"

Be like the character of your father and therefore be closer to God and become more like Jesus. When you become closer  to God you become closer to the image of God and therefore becoming the person he made you to be.

1 Peter 1:17

"You call him Father, when you pray to God, who judges all people by the same standard, according to what each one has done; so then, spend the rest of your lives here on earth in reverence for him."

You act in God's image because you fear his judgement and therefore the consequences of your actions. The disappear to do something hasn't changed you are just not doing anything because you fear God's judgement.

An example of this is that when you were a kid you would have disobeyed your parents at least once and you would suffer the consequences and therefore you wouldn't to that same thing again out of fear of the consequences.

1 Peter 1:21

"Through him you believe in God, who raised him from death and gave him glory; an so your faith and hope are fixed on God."

An example is a dog and if you have had a puppy you will know what I am talking about. So the puppy is holding on to this tie and you are pulling to get her to let go but she is wagging her tail and having so much fun as she thinks it's a game, so you change tactics and try tapping her on the nose and say 'give it' but that doesn't work so you try pulling her jaw off the tie. Finally, you get treats and show the dog and she let go off the tie for the treats. The dog had a greater affection for the treats.

What this story is trying to show is that when you have tried everything and it's not working then trust in the grace of God as God is our greater affection.

Augustine suggest that Love God then everything else will happen.

Well that's it for now

Standing firm, Standing tall - part 2

Hey, sorry it's been a while but have had a lot of university work to do such putting an exhibition as well as the project for the project.

So I went to the morning service last week as couldn't make the evening one and I discovered new songs that inspired me at this service.

The talk on Sunday was all about suffering and therefore we looked at Peter.

1 Peter 1:3-12

This letter is a letter to suffering Christians about hope and therefore their choose in God. This letter is all about the living hope. Hope in anything that isn't God will only disappoint you and hope you God will not as hope is never gone, it lasts for eternity as doesn't God's love.

In the talk they spoke about three things that evidenced through the scripture of Peter.

1. Perspective of Suffering

2. Purpose of Suffering

3. Paradox of Suffering

Perspective of Suffering

1 Peter 1:6

"Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trails you suffer."

You may think 'why is life so difficult, why is God putting me though this, what have I done wrong'

You shouldn't think this because what made you think that you wouldn't suffer as there is suffering shown throughout the Bible. Facing struggles is just a part of being human and living the life which the Bible demonstrates and says to do.

1 Peter 1:12

"And so I will always remind you of these matters, even though you already know them and are firmly grounded in the truth you have received."

You shouldn't be surprised by suffering as it is written in scripture, the Bible.

1 Peter 5:10

"But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation"

We are bound to suffer for a short while but there is a begin and an end, start and a finish so that we can be raise though the suffering.

Purpose of Suffering

1 Peter 1:6

"Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trails you suffer."

The image of fire is often used in the Bible which connotes that your selfrichessness is stripped away, being burnt away. I feel that this suggests that suffering strips to who you are and purifying your faith, proving the genuity of it. Your faith is true.

People may have appearance of faith but when it is tested doesn't stand. You should stand and trust in God because faith will stand the tests of time.

Give praise, honour and glory to yourself through your suffering not God as you will receive this. The reward is waiting for you in Heaven.

Paradox of Suffering

When you suffer greatly you will receive Joy in Christ, which angels long for as they can't experience our salvation. Joy of suffering is going through trials where the end result will be the puriaity in God, as Jesus suffered on the cross.

Isaiah 43:1-5

"Israel, the Lord who created you says, Do not be afraid - I will save you. I have called you by name - you are mine.

When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you.

When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.

For I am the Lord your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you.

I will give up Egypt to set you free; I will give up Ethiopia* and Seba. I will give up whole nations to save your life, because you are precious to me and because I love you and give you honour.

Do not be afraid - I am with you!"

The church has been playing a new song often recently so I thought I would share it with you.
