We started off this day early in the morning as we had to be
outside of our hotel reception by 8 am. A mini-bus picked us and another family
up and took us to somewhere in Labin where we met the coach that took us to the
Plitvice lakes.
The coach took about 3 hours, stopping after an hour at a
petrol station for food, drink and toilet. I had some watermelon with a glass
of freshly squeezed orange juice. Throughout this journey our tour guide, Miko,
spoke about Croatia as well as things we were seeing. Croatia is made of 3
parts which are the coast, the mountains and the flat areas. The speaker also
talked about the economy and how it was made up of 2 companies, one of which
was ‘HS Products’ that actually supplies American FBI with hand held guns known
as HS2000.
These lakes were founded in 949 and they are the biggest
national park in Croatia that stretches to cover 2 regions (91%/9%) which are
state owned. The lakes that we visited covered less than 1% of the Plitvice.
These lakes have at least 17,000 visitors regularly and over 1 million in a
year.
Our route to explore the Plitvice lakes started at entrance
1 where the coach dropped us off and ended at entrance 2 where it picked us up.
We first explored the lower lakes which were a beautiful turquoise colour and
the water was amazingly clear so we could see the bottom of the lake as well as
the fishes including pike. This section ended by travelling to the upper lakes via
boat. However, not before filling our water bottles with the tap of fresh water
available. Through this walk around these lovely lakes we saw many wonderful
waterfall’s.
Once across the large lake via boat dad got food out for us
to eat along the way which made us behind everyone in our tour. It was funny
because once Nicola and I had reached the group, the tour guide started walking
behind us like we were the end of the group forgetting about mum and dad.
Luckily the path was in one direction so they were able to catch up. Hazel
(Mum) and I didn’t like the upper lakes as much as the lower ones as they were
a dark green colour which therefore meant that the water wasn’t very clear.
However, this walk did lead to a massive waterfall that looked spectacular.
After viewing the upper lakes, we travelled via boat to an
area with toilets and shops where we walked from towards entrance 2 car park as
the coach was there. It was funny because when we stopped close to the entrance
the tour guide looked at me and ask ‘it’s just your parents we are waiting
for?’ I actually couldn’t answer where they were because as far as I knew they
were just behind me. Anyway, we all made it to the coach and then off we went
to the restaurant for food.
The restaurant appeared to have its own unique style that
was lovely. I had coke to drink which was nice to get some sugar into my body
after a long day. To start with we were served beef soup which was like
minestrone soup containing beef and noodles. This was followed by pork in a
creamy mushroom sauce along with potatoes and vegetables. To finish we were
served pancakes with cheese inside and cherry jam on top which apparently was
unexspectly very nice. However, I wouldn’t know as I had pancakes with apricot
jam due to not being able to eat cheese. Overall the set meal was lovely
especially the dessert.
Once finished at the restaurant we had 2 hours and 20
minutes to get to where our mini-bus was parked. It was quite funny because our
tour guide forgot about our stop, but luckily the driver knew what he was
doing.
Thank you for reading,
Hope you enjoyed it
