Decorating Biscuits

Hey,

Today at rainbows we had a change of plans as for some reason the guide dogs couldn’t come in as originally planned, so we went with decorating biscuits and who doesn’t love that.

So, like I said, they decorated biscuits which involved me and a mum, who was a volunteer for this week’s meeting, making icing sugar in 4 different bowls, one for each table. Then helping them spread the icing and covering the biscuits in sprinkles and stars. This obviously meant a lot of clearing to do afterwards but oh well they enjoyed themselves and so did I.

Once everyone had finished we played a game with them where is groups they took it in turns, in the group, to run to the other side of the room and pick up a piece of a puzzle, however it would have to be of the colour of your team (on the other side of the piece), and the game would end when one team has completed the puzzle. While they played this game, I was in the kitchen washing up the bowls and cutlery.

To finish we stood and did show and tell which we were unable to do at the beginning of this week’s meeting and then we sang the closing song before making sure each rainbow had what they came with as well as the biscuits.

Once the meeting was over, I cleaned the tables before walking home, which was quite nice as the lovely yet odd weather we had been having recently. I also met and spoke to two of my friends as well as being wished happy birthday for tomorrow, on my way home which was nice. I also met a swan who look beautiful.

Again, I have no pictures but this time it’s my fault as I forgot to take any photos. Sorry about that.

Carrying the Cross

Hey,

The service was started in a moment of silence to think about those who were affected by the Grenfell fire; those who have lost loved ones, those who are recovering from injuries, those who are risking their lives to save others. However, through this tragedy a great message of hope as presented itself through the community that have come to help those affected.

We send prayer to those who have lost love ones, people in hospital, the carers helping them, prayer that homes will be available soon, and prayer for God to comfort them. Gill thought of this verse in relation to this tragedy.

1 Peter 3:14

“But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. ‘Do not fear their threats, do not be frightened.’”

The talk this week was spoken by Kiran, who spoke briefly about multi-culturism and it’s definition, that is culture value and how not one culture as the right to think it is better than the other. Kiran spoke about how he personally didn’t believe in multiculturism as he believes that everything is about family. I relate to this by looking at not just our individual families but also how we are all one big family as we are all children of God.

The reading for this service is a continuation from the verse Gill shared with us through prayer for the fire tragedy. This is . . .

1 Peter 3:14-16

“But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. ‘Do not fear their threats, do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have, But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behaviour in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”

Psalms 46:1-5

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most high dwells. Gods is within her, she will not fall; God will help her break of day.”

It is not difficult to talk and start conversations with those of a God culture as they share our belief in God, but you need to remember that we live in a multi-cultural country so there are many different cultures and beliefs. We need to reach out to these cultures, well really reach out and spread the word of God to those people, whatever they believe.

2 Corinthians 6:1-2

“As God’s fellow workers we urge you not receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, ‘In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation.”

In the Bible, there are many people such as the Hebrews and Jews who can be examples for us to understand and learn what Jesus teaches us and who he is, but also how we should act to become more like him for he is our salvation.

What should we cling to?

1 Kings 1:50-52

“But Adonijah, in fear of Solomon, went and took hold of the horns of the altar. Then Solomon was told ‘Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon and is clinging to the horns of the altar He says ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’ Solomon replied ‘If he shows himself to be worthy, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground; but if evil is found in him, he will die.’”

We carry the cross with us as God works through us and delivers us from evil so that we do not fall into temptation of evil.

Exodus 30:10

“Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on it horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the Lord.”

God will forgive us no matter what just confess your sins to him as Jesus died on the cross for this very reason and we carry him with us. When talking about the cross I feel that we could be talking about the physical cross that Jesus carried but you could also be talking about Jesus, as the cross is a good symbolism for Jesus as well as belief in God.

He is the beginning to the end as God made the choice to intervene by choosing to send his only son down to earth and to live with us and our weaknesses. Jesus went from a safe place to a place full of weaknesses but he still came and sacrificed himself for our sins but mainly for each and everyone of his children. You are the father’s sons and daughters

When writing this blog post a verse was showed to me which I would like to share with you. This verse was . . .

2 Corinthians 6:18

"I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Kiran believes God wants to be our father but he wants us to carry to cross with him. To die with him and to then rise with him.

Prayer

The prayers this week mainly focused on the tragedy of the Grenfell tower fire but also some general prayers about giving the leaders wisdom to guide them in leadership of our country, as well as healing for those who are ill and are suffering.

After the prayers, we sang ‘Be thou my vision’ which I felt linked well with the prayers as they were about healing and wisdom. This song is inspirational and demonstrates that God is always with us.

Songs

This is a new and energetic song that I actually enjoyed and liked.

This I believe (The Creed)

This is an old hymn that is really emotional.

Jesus, All for Jesus

I feel this song is about bringing yourself closer to Jesus by giving yourself to him.

Having a Mary heart in a Martha world

Hey,

This week was the second week back at my old church and the service was the last of the series ‘Having a Mary heart in a Martha world’. However, before we discuss the talk, spoken by Gill let’s talk about what Ingrid said before the talk.

Ingrid spoke about how she felt that God sent this song ‘But I’m only Human’ to her, as during this week the election has been held where there having been many parties with different views, some of which you agree with and some of which you do not, but whether you agree or disagree you need to remember that they are only human and are doing what they believe is best. This can also apply to not just leaders but anyone who you may not get along with and therefore annoy you. Remember that they are only human and that every prayer counts . . . so pray for them.

This week the speaker was Gill. She started the talk by talking about how attitude is important to spending time with God so you don’t look at spending time with the lord as just something on the timetable that needs to be done. Through a positive attitude towards spending time with God you will gain an intimacy in the heart of your relationship with God.

Luke 10:38-42

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’

‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things not few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her.’

We need to have value in being his, and not always being productive, I know at times we have all this stuff we need to do, but we should take time out of all the work to just sit and spend time knowing Jesus as well as being with him.

John 11:20-28

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “’Lord’ Martha said to Jesus ‘if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’ Martha answered, ‘I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’ Jesus said to her ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?

‘Yes Lord’ she replied, ‘I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.’ After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. ‘The teacher is here’ she said ‘and is asking for you.’”

I suggest that you keep reading to John 11:35.

Martha has changed and through these verses we see this, as when Jesus arrived instead of staying to make sure things were ready, she went out to meet the Lord.

Matthew 28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Don’t try to do to much as you don’t need to do it all. You may be asked to carry a burden for others, but don’t try to carry everyone’s and don’t do it for them but for you who has been given to skills and task to help carry this certain burden. Don’t tread on peoples’ toes by trying to carry a burden and do things that are not meant for you.

What does God want you to do, Know what are gifts are;

Find your calling and what God wants from you by spending time with God maybe through prayer, and thinking about what makes you feel energised. Don’t forget to also think about what you enjoy doing as well as what motivates you and you love doing. Take time out of your busy lives and sit down with God.

Ephesians 4:8

“’When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”

Ephesians 4:11-13

“Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

Listening to Gill take about how we all have different gifts and should not try to do walk not suited for us, reminded me of a few verses in Ephesians about the body of Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:3

“You show that you are letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tables of human hearts.”

We are part of God’s love letter to the world.

James 1:22

“Do not merely listen to the world, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

We are the representatives of Jesus in the world and it is our job to spread the knowledge of him and his love.

James 1:2-4

“Consider it pure joy, my brother and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its works so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

It is a gradual process to become like Jesus, there are many steps forwards as well as backwards. There are also many turns that may end up leading you in a direction that you would never have expected but it is the path that you need to take. You must also remember that God gives you the strength to push through the ups and downs in life and the path you chose to walk with him.

Philippians 1:4-7

“In all my prayers for all of you, always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.”

These verses suggest and show that God works in us in many different ways, but all to go out into the world and spread the word of him.

Focus on Christ alone and don’t worry about what you have to get done. Surrender and give yourself to the Lord and through doing this you can do anything. This reminds me of the song ‘In Christ alone’ by Stuart Townend.

Books:

In this talk two books were suggested for a read, due to part of the talk being influenced by the books, and they were;

‘When God shines through' by Claire Cloninger

This book speaks of many things but mainly God’s plan. However, I haven’t personally read it so I am just sharing the word from the speaker, Gill.

Again, I have not read this book but it seems like a good book to read if you are interested in the topic of this post ‘Having a Mary heart in a Martha world’.

‘Having a Mary heart in a Martha world’ by Joanna Weaver

Songs:

This is a very inspirational song which I feel is about looking to God for what you need as well as looking to him in general for, Strength, Love, and Peace.

God is forever with us in all that we have done, are doing and will do.

This song is very enjoyable and inviting song so I thought to include it in this blog post as I have not heard it in a while.

Sorry for the wait on this post but I have been busy revising and clearing out my university home. I am also sorry about the length of this post but I hope you enjoyed it.

Father's Day

Hey,

Sorry for the late post but anyway . . .

The week just gone at Rainbows involved a lot of cutting as we were doing a craft. I am sure you all know what this Sunday is, and if you don’t, you better be quick to get your dad something as Father’s day is right around the corner, like literally it’s in less than 2 days.

So, if you haven’t guess what we did, I will enlighten you, we made father’s day cards which was loads of fun. We made cards with ties on created out of different materials and a message inside.

Sorry no photo’s but can’t ruin the surprise for the dad’s.

I have helped the Rainbows with their cards for dads but what am I meant to do . . .

Oh well, will just have to think of something

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading

Nobody's Perfect

Hey,

So, last Friday I went to the dance exercise thing called ‘Clubbercise' which are classes put on by 'Nobody’sPerfect’. I went with my mum who went again this week. However, although I enjoyed myself last week, it wasn’t my thing and therefore didn’t go back this week, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t your thing.

This is an aerobic dance exercise in the dark where you are given two glow sticks, one for each hand, and there are coloured spotlights throughout the room (sports hall). It looks kind of like what a disco would look like before the drinks are set up, and instead of a DJ, you have a CD played and speakers.

It is £5 per person for entry and if you are new you need to fill in a quick form so they have contact information as well as medical information as it can get very energetic. However, I think this is totally worth it.

Women's Cycling Tour

Hey,

In the morning, last Friday, I went down to Clinton Lane, with my dad, to watch ‘The Women’s Cycling Tour’ which I found exciting. I also found it was a great way to get out of the house, as I seem to always be here; whether revising; posting on blog; or preparing for my birthday party, that I am sharing with my sister.

Here are some of my photos from that morning:

Prayer

Hey,

This evening, I went to Compline, which is a prayer evening at St. John’s church, with mum so we could relax and destress after an afternoon of filling in forms. This evening is set out so that we sit in a circle (on chairs) around a candle that is lit in the middle.

We read ‘Psalm 91’ in a way that got everyone involved and felt like a prayer which was nice. The person leading would read a verse and then we would read the next verse together. We did this continuously until the end.

As we sat in silence, we listened to the reading ‘Acts 17-21’. We then listened to a prayer, and here is part of it that stood out to me;

“guard us while sleeping, that awake we may watch with Christ and asleep may rest in peace.”

It then came to prayer, where the leader read a sentence, and then left a space of silence to say a prayer ourselves out loud that related to the sentence. Here are the prayers that stood out to me;

o   to recognise what God has asked us to do

o   to guide those who will be chosen to lead tomorrow and for a peaceful vote

o   to use resources of creation for the good of creation

o   to bless all God’s people whatever their circumstances

and finally

o   to bring peace to those in stress

This was a lovely and relaxing event that I enjoyed, especially doing it with my mum.

Family

Hey,

Last week, I travelled down to Nottingham with my family, to my grandma’s where the rest of my family of my dad’s side were also going to be. We had a big get together which we usually only do at Christmas, so it was nice to do this in the summer, so close to many of the family’s birthday’s: in June, we have mine (20th), my sister’s (17th), my twin cousin’s (3rd), their dad, and my dad’s birthday coming up. We also have my grandma's birthday at the end of May.

This get together involves going out for lunch at a restaurant, which dad got confused to which one so ended up going to the wrong place first before the right place ‘Toby Carvery’.

The image to the right, is what happens when two very
ticklish people decide to tickle each other.

Then we go back to my grandparent’s place and as the weather was lovely, well lovely minus the bit of rain here and there, we spent some time in the garden.

Finally, we have a buffet for tea, before we all leave to travel back home.

This was a lovely day.

I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading,
